Climbing Equipment Checklist Suggestions

Going rock climbing indoors and at local areas is fun and convenient, and it's nice because if you forgot anything you can simply run out and grab it.  Going out on a more full adventure to rock climb in gorgeous outdoor locations can be far more rewarding, but you no longer have the option to run back for other items.  As such, a rock climbing equipment checklist is important.  Here is an example climbing checklist to reference as you create your own.

The Basics:
A Rope, belaying and rappeling device, carabiner and locking device (as well as non-locking versions), ascender or ascenders, chalk and chalk bag, climbing pack, crash pads, helmet, harness, rock climbing shoes, climbing gloves, sports tape, a climbing route guide, nuts, hexes, cams, and gear sling.

Important Extras:
Sunscreen, chap stick/lip balk, sunglasses (with strap), first aid kit, map of the area, GPS device, flashlight (or headlamp), food (nuts, trail mix, cliff bars), water (or other hydration options like gatorade), pocket knife or leatherman, appropriate clothing (dependent on weather, but additional items for emergencies should include jackets, gloves, hats, and so on), reflective blanket, lighter and starter fluid, waterproof containers, a two-way radio, a compass, insect repellent, disposable camera, and toilet paper.

Various other items can be included in this list, and will vary depending on the location that you're choosing to climb and how long you intend to stay in the area.  Binoculars,singla mirrors, permits for the area, trash bags, something to take notes with, and spares for anything that is absolutely mandatory are all things that you should bring along if you can afford them.  Make your own climbing equipment checklist based on what you have and bring along a notepad to take note of anything extra to add to the climbing equipment checklist for next time.
