Climbing Shoes

A pair of climbing shoes can be pricey, so you want to make sure you are getting exactly what you need.  There are a few things you need to know about your shoe before you purchase, and here are some things you need to be sure are right for your style of climbing before you buy:
Size:  Remember, climbing shoes run tight, so that there isn't any slipping around of your foot inside the shoe, and so you can maintain a better grip on the rock.  You want them snug, but not to the point that they give you pain.  Most quality rock climbing shoes have velcro or hook-and-loop closures to make sure your fit is perfect.
Grip:  You are hanging on the side of a mountain, you definitely don't want your shoes to be slippery.  Make sure that the soles of your shoes have fantastic grip, because a comfortable shoe with a good grip is kind of the point of buying rock climbing shoes.
Movement:  Your feet are going to be pointing, curling, and pivoting all over the place.  You don't want your shoe to restrict your movement, so you may want to look for one designed like a jazz shoe, with a softer center that allows better movement when you flex and point.
Shape:  Some rock Climbing shoes are designed with down-turned toes and other advantages to help you fit on small crevices and surface areas more blunt-shaped shoes would make difficult.
It can be an intimidating purchase, but the right rock climbing shoes can totally change your game.  Do the research, make a choice, and go find a mountain to climb.
